If you're going to play the ukulele (and everyone should!), you must take lessons with Stuart Yoshida. He is an accomplished ukulele player who brings the 'Aloha spirit' to every lesson.

Andrew SO enjoyed his lesson.  He played for 3+ hours yesterday and another hour today.  Thank you for inspiring him!

I tried two other instructors and knew after the first lesson that they were not what I was looking for. Stuart was my third try, and I knew right away he could teach me what I wanted to learn about the ukulele.

Danno II CD: Blog Entry #1

Screen shot of Danno II song recording

We've started recording our next, still untitled CD.  I'll be blogging as we make progress, and even post a few snippets of songs we're working on.  The first one you see above is a Hawaiian language tune called "Papalina Lahilahi."  We perform it pretty traditional Old School style, but we add in a nice swing backbeat inspired by a version by Peter Moon.  I've shamelessly stolen some of his licks, too.

We've laid down the backing tracks (scratch track, rhythm ukulele and guitar, bass), and we've got a pretty good steel guitar recorded, too.  I'm sure it'll be a few more takes until we're happy with the leads, and then it'll be time to records the vocals.

Let me know if you have questions about the recording process, and I'll share my experiences with you.
