With rubbah slippahs on and a fry-pan in his lap, Chris Kennison jams at the Rocky Mountain Steel Guitar show. He asked me and Kit Simon to back him up at the show. It was lots of fun, very laid back. The audience really appreciated the Hawaiian Steel stylings that Chris played. There was a long line-up of performers, and EP Davis and Chris hosted the show all day and into the night.

We've started recording our next, still untitled CD. I'll be blogging as we make progress, and even post a few snippets of songs we're working on. The first one you see above is a Hawaiian language tune called "Papalina Lahilahi." We perform it pretty traditional Old School style, but we add in a nice swing backbeat inspired by a version by Peter Moon. I've shamelessly stolen some of his licks, too.
We've laid down the backing tracks (scratch track, rhythm ukulele and guitar, bass), and we've got a pretty good steel guitar recorded, too. I'm sure it'll be a few more takes until we're happy with the leads, and then it'll be time to records the vocals.

Here's where I try to make the hard-core Peterson Strobe Tuner fans jealous. The picture on the right shows me tuning my ukulele with the iStroboSoft app on an iPhone 3G. I have the Peterson TP-2 clip on contact mic and the Peterson audio jack adapter for the iPhone. I ordered the adapter on the Peterson website ($17.94 with shipping), the Peterson TP-2 Tuning Pickup
on Amazon ($12.63 with shipping), and got the iStroboSoft app ($9.99) on iTunes. Total cost for a genuine Peterson tuner: $40.56. The iPhone app works fine without the adapter and clip-on mic, so you could just get the app for $9.99 and have a super-killer deal on a Strobe Tuner. Nice!
